Art Nouveau

Between the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century several beautiful buildings were constructed in a delightful Art Nouveau style. As well as the Grande Albergo AUSONIA & HUNGARIA with its stunning facade covered by a wealth of polycromatic majolica, these include: villa Kamakura in via Cipro, characterized by some coloured glass windows; villa Mon Plaisir in Gran Viale, the work by the architect Sullam ( 1906 ) with its wrought ironwork and “ liagò” ( a covered and enclosed pergola in eastern style ), villa Gemma in via Dardanelli, a typical example of Art Deco; villa Mirandolina by the side of the Quattro Fontane Canal, with its bright, elegant forms; the Excelsior chemist’s in Via S.Gallo, with its shell-shaped balconies elegantly spaced on the façade.
